Hack My Life
I am fortunate enough to have my own room and a studio room in my house. However, I still find myself struggling for space between the big drafting table, a couch, racks, loads of fabric, and storage space. Plus we all have a budget and I never want to over spend….unless its shoes or my clothes! I’m going to give you life saving tips on how to maximize your space for a fashion studio on a budget.
Pant Hangers
All those fabrics can be a mess and if you toss them in a container chances are you forget what you have. The best trick to organizing your fabrics is pant hangers! (click here for the ones I buy) Pant hangers are so easy to use you open the latch and fold over all your fabrics and then close the latch and just hang them on a rack or in your closet. I have 8 in my closet hanging and they don’t even take up half the closet. The huge plus about using pant hangers is all your fabrics are in plain site. No more digging for your next sewing project.
Going out of business is a good sign
Every designer wants a big drafting table to work on. However, they tend to cost so much money! I saved around $900 just by going to stores that were going out of business. The secret is they tend to sell their tables and mannequins. I saw a large table and asked to buy it for $50 and a Mannequin for $20. Believe it or not they sold it to me!
Coat Rack Hangers
With designing all these clothes comes with making big patterns. I had no clue where I was going to fit all my patterns. I found this amazing idea of using a behind the door coat rack.
